Support for Widows and FamiliesPhoenix Advocates provides support for newly bereaved widows and families. No one understands what it is like to loose a spouse in the line-of-duty except another widow. There are other organizations who do a great job of supporting widows and families of police and fire line-of-duty deaths, however often these organizations do not engage for weeks or months.
Our intention is not to replace these organizations but to bridge the gap and provide interim support. Having a connection with another widow who has experienced a similar loss can provide a life line during the darkest time in their life. Additionally we know that every situation is different. Often in cases of cancer and cardiac deaths widows and families receive little to know support in navigating the determination and benefits process. Though we are not experts on every state or department we are able to access our extensive survivor network and provide advice on what questions to ask. We also keep a list private organizations that provide various resources. If you are or know of a newly bereaved widow/significant other or surviving parent of a newly bereaved child who needs support please complete the request for support form by click the button below. |
First Responders and FamiliesHaving lived through the worst-case scenario, we have a unique and comprehensive understanding of the fallout a family endures as a result of a line-of-duty death. While nothing can fully prepare you for a line of duty death, there are ways to protect your family and ensure they are provided for if you are unable to do so yourself. If you have the belief that your family will be cared for or that you are worth more to them dead than alive, you are severely mistaken. Line-of-Duty Death Planning SessionsAs a first responder planning is your job- you are expected to be prepared, equipped and in control when you show up for someone else's worst day. Have you done that for your own family - have you educated and empowered them to pick up the pieces should the unthinkable happen to you?
Phoenix Advocates provides free line-of-duty death planning sessions for police and fire departments and related organization or conferences. These sessions are intended for the individual but are also helpful for departments and families. The sessions typically run 2 to 3 hours in duration. Topics covered include but are not limited to the following:
